Beach more. Worry less.

Week in Hawaii

Hi all! Last time we spoke I left you with the hikes I did while in Oahu. I now leave you with some of the places we got to go to and some food recommendations (or warnings) lol Hope you enjoy! & please share your Oahu faves in the comments 🙂

KCC Farmers Market

Our first day in Oahu we decided to go to the KCC Farmers Market after our early morning hike. Now if you have any spare time during your trip, I highly recommend stopping at a local farmers market. While at KCC FM we picked up some amazing jerky from @orchidislesnacks. Like honestly, the BEST jerky I have ever had. This farmers market is open every Saturday 7:30am-11am.

KCC Cactus Garden

Now if you know me, you know I love an opportunity for some good pictures. KCC Cactus Garden delivered! Located right next to the farmers market, it is such a beautiful and convenient place. Get yourself some yummy food and snap some pics.

Waikiki Aquarium

I attended the Waikiki Aquarium towards the end of the day on a weekend and was glad to do so because we had most of the place to ourselves. If you have kids or are looking for a place to wind down and enjoy the sea life (without getting wet) then this is the place to be. Their souvenir picture book was way too cute not to buy, so of course we purchased it! Also, they offer military discount.

Dole Plantation

The Dole Plantation had to have been one of my favorite places we visited. Why? Dole Whip, that’s why! Not only that but it was such a beautiful place to walk around and explore. We took the train ride tour and tried to complete the maze but failed after getting tired of walking lol Also, we all picked our own pearls from one of the many little pearl stands they have. They provide military discounts.

Waikiki Beach

If there is a beach you must visit it is Waikiki Beach. Now I don’t mean visit Waikiki and only Waikiki because, let’s face it, there area so many other more beautiful beaches (Lanikai) in Oahu. Yet, Waikiki is one of those places that is good to see while visiting because it has a lot of tourist things to do.

Nu’uanu Pali Lookout

Nu’uanuu Pali Lookout is another great place for pictures. The lookout offers views of vast greenery and endless ocean. Parking is free for military. Be warned, it gets really windy up there so hold on to your hats! Mine nearly flew off.

East Honolulu Beach Park

East Honolulu Park was such a relaxing place to go, with the best views of Koko Head. We went to catch the sunset before heading out to dinner. It is such a great place for a picnic! Not only that, but you can rent equipment there and there is also a basketball court. Located in a quiet residential area.

The Chief’s Luau

Going to The Chief’s Luau was my number one favorite thing we did. We got the best option available which provides you with front row seats, first dibs on food, a cool lei, and 3 drinks. Everyone was so welcoming and The Chief had us laughing through the show. The dancers were amazing and there were plenty of activities for you to do before the show.

FOOD SUGGESTIONS

  • Doraki Sushi: Try the tempura ice cream!
  • Tikis Bar and Grill: They have the best tropical drinks in unique and affordable souvenir cups, with a view of Waikiki Beach.
  • Alexandro’s Mex Food: It is a hole in the wall restaurant with good “Mexican” food.
  • Matsumoto Shaved Ice: Hawaiian Combination with condensed milk was amaze!
  • Broken Rice: Okay, talk about great customer service!! They get an A+ in my book. Oh and let me add…CLEAN restaurant and amazing Vietnamese food.
  • Ono Poke: This place have a long line, but it moves fast! Favorite flavor was the Hawaii style ahi 🙂 parking is limited so I suggest taking an Uber/Lyft or going before lunch time.
  • Giovanni’s Shrimp: I would say to go for the hype and to try the other food trucks around it. I got the lemon butter flavor and it was okay. Not worth the money you pay and time you wait. & to top it off HORRIBLE customer service!! We asked the guy handing us our ordered if he could wrap it to go because there was nowhere to sit and he literally huffed and rolled his eyes so far back he probably saw his brain..
  • Leonard’s Bakery: You cannot go to Oahu and not pick up some malasadas. My husband bought a dozen and a half lol he did however wake up at 5am to beat the morning rush. PARKING IS VERY LIMITED.
  • Harry’s Café: A little hole in the wall café that is cash only. Amazing customer service and huge portions for a very affordable price.

Aloha, Beaches!

aloha

In about three weeks Matthew, my mom, and I will be taking a family trip to Oahu, Hawaii. Not only will this be my first time in Hawaii, but it will also be the first time I see my mom in a year and a half! Yay me!

Being the over-thinker that I am I have been planning this trip for months now >.< lol

Therefore, I will be sharing some of my trip essentials with you guys. Enjoy!

out of office!

1. Rainbow Sandals

I am obsessed with how comfortable Rainbow sandals are (after you break them in of course) && must have a new pair as soon as my old ones are done. For this family trip, I got a pair of Rainbows for myself and I got Matthew his very first pair EVERRRR…& he loves them! 🙂

2. Little America – Mid Volume Backpack

My Herschel Supply Co. backpack has to be my favorite to travel with! I don’t do the whole purse thing, instead I opt for a more practical and roomy option, a backpack! This backpack passes as your personal item on planes (score!), is sturdy, fashion forward (comes in 7 colors)…and did I already mention how much room it has?!

3. Fifteen Belt Bag

So fanny packs are a new thing for me. When I worked at the Boys & Girls Clubs of GG we had to wear a fanny pack to hold first aid items and I HATED it! Few years pass, I get over my fanny pack hate, and realize how practical these are. I don’t know about you but I love to go hiking when I go on vacations. There’s just so much nature to explore! With hiking comes walking, climbing, etc. Therefore sometimes a backpack just isn’t the best choice. Cue, the fanny pack!! This awesome Herschel Supply Co. (notice a brand obsession lol) fanny pack is big enough to hold a phone, snacks (vital), and a few other items. Plus it comes in 6 different colors!

4. Erika Classic 54mm Sunglasses

Ray-Ban sunglasses…need I say more? These are a classic! I love Ray-Ban and this pair in particular is my favorite. The color scheme and lightweight frame, simple yet chic design that you can wear to the beach or with your Sunday best! Add to that the reasonable pricing and you have a winner 🙂

5. Janelle Green Multi Print Flatform Espadrilles

Espadrilles are such a beach staple! These palm tree print are so fun, cute, and comfortable. They basically go with everything: dress, shorts, pants, you name it! ($29)

6. Vince Camuto Paper Fedora

I love a good fedora anytime of the year but beach vacations mean straw fedoras and this Vince Camuto one is just right. My favorite thing about this fedora is that it is not too high so it wont make your head look longer than it is. Plus it is only $19.99!!

7. Pink Haley Alisha Pompom Straw Tote

How fun is this pompom tote?! Perfect for a beach day and ON SALE!

8. ASOS Mix and Match Crinkle Crop Bikini

If you don’t know already, my favorite color is pink! So when I saw this bikini I was thrilled! Hot pink is a color that goes with all skin tones. Add to it that the bottom is high waist and you got yourself a WINNER! Plus this material is so fun and unique.

9. ASOS TALL Plunge Ruched Front Swimsuit

Being 5’7, or taller, means you know the struggle to find a one-piece (or romper for that matter) that fits right. ASOS is great because they carry tall options in a lot of their items. This one piece is such a pretty yellow and covers up what some may consider “problem areas.” The material is very thick, so it keeps everything together and covered up!

10. Akasa Crochet Maxi Beach Caftan

Having a cover up is always a good idea. Specially if you’re going to try and grab a bite before or after sunbathing. This particular cover up is long enough to be appropriate for a sit down restaurant and flowy/thin enough to allow you to dry up fast.
