Things I Learned by 28

With my 28th bday being right around the corner, I thought I’d share 28 things I learned by 28. Please feel free to share any of the things you’ve learned throughout your life!

  1. Know how to be alone, because you will be alone at times and it is OK
  2. Your mom is your best friend
  3. & so are your sister and/or brother ❤
  4. You’ll always be your daddy’s little girl, no matter how old you are
  5. Don’t rush into dating or marriage, the right one will come
  6. Get an education, it comes in handy (beauty school, technical school, college, etc.)
  7. Work where you are happy, not where they pay the most
  8. Credit cards are only for emergencies (and some light shopping)
  9. SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!
  10. Don’t get yourself into debt trying to impress people that don’t matter
  11. Alcohol should be consumed with limits, not until you pass out
  12. You don’t need alcohol to have fun at parties
  13. Travel as much as you can
  14. Be kind to everyone, why waste your energy being mean
  15. Not everyone is your friend
  16. It’s OK to get out of a toxic friendship/relationship,  regardless of the years in it
  17. You’re allowed to cut family off
  18. Always do your bed before you leave & wash the dishes before bed bc cleanliness
  19. Don’t go to bed with your makeup on…WASH YOUR FACE
  20. You don’t need makeup to look beautiful
  21. Be comfortable in your own skin
  22. Eat your veggies and drink your water (your body will thank you)
  23. Think twice about that tattoo you want…they’re forever (unless you do laser)
  24. Don’t go to bed mad
  25. Be HONEST…it takes more time/energy to lie
  26. It is OK to ask for help, you’re only human
  27. Don’t compare yourself to others, everyone is unique
  28. Don’t let others pressure you: drugs, alcohol, marriage, children, etc.

& there you have it folks, all the wisdom you need from an almost 28 year old! (I’m sure I could’ve thought of more but…OLD person’s brain here lol)

Battling My Worst Enemy: My Weight

I think almost everyone has at one point in their life made a comment about how they want to loose or gain weight, or how they’d be happier if they were in better shape. I am amongst that group of people!

The first time I ever felt like I needed to be thinner was when I was 12! Yes you read that right, 12 years old. The thought had never crossed my mind until someone in my family made a comment about how I should be thinner and ever since then the comments kept coming. I battled with my weight for many years (I’d loose weight then gain it) and had roller coaster emotions about my body…one day I’d love it and one day I’d hate it. Finally, in 2015, i remember I had gotten food poisoning and lost 10 pounds from that terrible ordeal. I took it as a blessing though and made sure that I wouldn’t gain the weight back.

The day after I got better I told my mom I was ready to start my journey to a healthier body. Alongside my mother, I started meal prepping and counting my calories. We started off going for a fast-paced, hour long walk on a daily basis. After that we began going to the gym and focusing on cardio. The weight started coming off quickly but so did my curves! My best friend then mentioned that she had been going to a boot camp and the instructor was a personal trainer. That is where my journey with my personal trainer began!

Signing up for personal training classes with Alyssa (owner of A-fit Training) was the best decision I ever made. She pushed me harder and harder everyday and taught me what my body was capable of doing. Alyssa is also the owner of A-fit Bakeshop which offers healthy goodies. These healthy desserts were a life saver for me because lord knows I have a sweet tooth! Long story short, with the help of my mother and Alyssa, I lost 30 pounds and got my body where I wanted it to be.

Sadly though, I have now gained all of the weight I lost. It didn’t happen all at once, but it happened. Now I can’t blame anyone but myself for this, yet there were circumstances which didn’t help. I was living in Guam confined to my home almost 24/7 which made me highly depressed and unfortunately I used baking and cooking as a coping mechanism which meant someone had to eat that food…now that I am in Washington I work at a place where I am sitting all day and I also have a long commute which means more sitting.

At the start of this new year I told myself that I was going to better my health by bettering my weight. & that is exactly what I am going to do! I already started eating healthy and drinking a lot of water. I use the My Fitness Pal application to track the calories I eat and Plant Nanny to keep track of my water intake (with a cute twist). At work I have started walking around as much as I can and do not sit or stop moving when I am home. I will be signing up to the gym this week as well and will make sure I get myself there at least 4-5 times a week. Now all this sounds like a great plan and all, but the most important factor for myself to succeed is well ME! I don’t have my mom or Alyssa to help keep me accountable anymore so I have to rely on myself. Like they say, “in order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”
